Oven cleaning step-by-step plan

In this step-by-step plan, you will discover how to clean the different parts of the oven. From insides to grates and door to control ring. For each step, make sure the oven is off and well cooled before you begin.

Cleaning oven with a dishwasher tablet?

You can! But for daily or weekly maintenance, we recommend a mix of warm water and dish soap. For stubborn stains, you can use lemon juice, cleaning vinegar or a dishwasher tablet. Never use abrasives and test the detergent on a small piece first to see if it works and does not cause damage.

Cleaning the inside of the oven

  1. Have dish soap, warm water, a dry sponge and a clean cloth ready.

  2. Remove grates and racks from the oven.

  3. Pour hot water with some dish soap over the bottom of the oven and turn it on at 60°C for 1 hour. Close the door. And set a timer.

  4. After an hour, turn off the oven and let it cool by opening the door before continuing.

  5. Remove the water with a sponge.

  6. Dry after with a clean (tea) cloth.

  7. Replace the grates and racks.

Cleaning oven grates

Usually, oven grates are dishwasher safe. Do they not come out of the dishwasher completely clean? Then you can use a cleaning cloth to remove stubborn caked-on stains. If necessary, you can use a cleaning gel. Can't put your oven's grates in the dishwasher? Soak them in warm soapy water and remove stubborn dirt with a cloth or brush. Dry them before putting them back in the oven. Check the instructions in advance on how best to clean the oven grates to avoid damage.

Cleaning the oven door

Use warm soapy water and a microfiber cloth to clean the oven door. Make sure the oven is completely cooled before you begin. Using the warm soapy water, wipe the panes and door clean, letting it soak for a while if there is stubborn dirt on it, then wipe with a soft cloth. On some models, the door can be disassembled to thoroughly clean the windows and door. Check the instruction manual to see if this applies to your oven.

Cleaning the seal

The seal is a rubber or silicone strip that sits around the door of a furnace. It ensures that the furnace closes properly so that heat stays inside. A clean and functioning seal prevents hot air from escaping, allowing the oven to better maintain its temperature, save energy and keep baking evenly in other words; functioning optimally.

  1. Make a suds with warm water and dish soap in a bowl.

  2. Dip a clean cleaning cloth into the soapy water and use it to wipe the seal.

  3. Use a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture.

  4. Check that the seal is still in the right place.

Cleaning the control ring

Does your furnace have a physical control ring? Don't forget to clean it occasionally. Fine dust or dirt can get behind it. This can make turning more difficult. Often the ring is removable. Read the instructions for your oven to see if this is indeed the case. Clean the control ring carefully with a little soap and a cleaning cloth. Do not put the ring in the dishwasher or soak it in soapy water. This can lead to damage.

Cleaning burnt-in oven

By cleaning the oven regularly, such as after each use or once a week, you can prevent burned-in stains and caked-on dirt. Do you still have a burnt-in oven? Then we recommend using one of the Bosch oven cleaners. Due to the composition and action of these agents, hard scrubbing and hours of soaking is not necessary.

Other ways to remove burnt-in dirt:

  1. Using the inside of a lemon cut in half, dab the burned-in stains. Let it soak in for a while. Then carefully remove the dirt with e.g. a wooden spatula, damp or dry cloth.

  2. Coat the burned-in stains with a thick mixture of dish soap and water. Let it soak in for a few hours. Then wipe off with a clean damp cloth, and dry with a tea towel.

  3. Preheat the oven to 200 °C, place an oven-proof bowl with water and juice from a squeezed lemon, dishwasher tablet or a splash of cleaning vinegar in the oven. Close the door and reset the oven to 0 °C. The water-lemon, water-dishwasher tablet or water-cleaning vinegar mixture will evaporate in the oven and loosen the dirt. If all goes well, after a few hours you can remove the dirt in no time with a clean cloth.

Self-cleaning ovens

Don't feel like or have time to clean your oven regularly? Then an oven with self-cleaning features and programs is the solution. With us you will find Bosch ovens with smart cleaning aids such as pyrolysis and Eco Clean. This will save you time, as it cleans the oven super fast.

Pyrolysis

At the touch of a button, the automatic cleaning program burns any food residue into ash, at a temperature of 480 °C, using pyrolysis. You choose one of three cleaning programs based on how dirty the oven is. Afterwards, you wipe away the remains with some kitchen paper. That's all you need, that's all you have to do.

See how it works in the video

Eco Clean

Eco Clean is a special coating of ultra-fine ceramic particles applied to the oven walls. Grease splashes that come into contact with it break down automatically through oxidation. This makes cleaning much less intensive, because deposits only appear on uncoated parts: the bottom and the inside of the oven door. Moreover, the coating continues to repair itself each time the oven is used.

Cleaning Assistance program

Is the oven bottom a little dirty and you want to clean it quickly? No problem. Just pour a drop of detergent with 400 ml of water over the cooled bottom of your oven, select the Cleaning Assistance program and you're done. This program loosens caked-on food residue so you can easily wipe it away.
