Cleaning products household appliances

Cleaning household appliances with the right products ensures that the appliances keep working well for a long time. In a previous blog, we talk about Bosch and Siemens official cleaning products. In this blog, we discuss which other, inexpensive cleaning products you can use for the different appliances in your home.

Which cleaning products for which appliance?

The more specific, the better. All-purpose cleaners can work fine, but it's still a mix. The more specific the cleaning product, the better it will work. Every appliance is unique and not every cleaning product is suitable for every appliance. In general, we recommend; is there a specific cleaning product for the appliance? Use that. Prefer not to spend a lot of money on cleaning products? Read the tips below.

Best washer cleaning products

Besides special washer cleaners and care products, you can also use crystal or fine baking soda or natural vinegar. These agents are cheaper and work fine. Make sure the washer is empty, add half a cup of soda or a splash of soda vinegar in the drum and run the washer at 90-95°C. This will dissolve limescale, grease lice and other dirt and also remove unpleasant odours. Do this once a month. Don't have baking soda or natural vinegar? You can also use dishwasher tablets. Put 2 dishwasher tablets in the detergent drawer and run the empty washer at 90-95°C. Discover more washer maintenance tips.

Dryer cleaning with natural vinegar?

You can! You can easily, inexpensively and hygienically clean the dryer drum with a damp cloth and a little soda vinegar. This removes grease and makes the dryer smell fresh again. Plus point: natural vinegar is environmentally friendly. Discover more dryer maintenance tips.

Can I clean the dishwasher with vinegar?

Yes, vinegar is a great dishwasher cleaner. Fill a cup or dishwasher-safe container with cleaning vinegar and put it in the dishwasher when you run the appliance on a normal programme. So the dishwasher doesn't necessarily have to be empty. For extra thorough cleaning, pour some cleaning vinegar over the bottom of the dishwasher, place lemon slices in the cutlery tray and run the machine, without dishes, at the highest temperature. Lime, grease and unpleasant odours will be gone afterwards. By cleaning the dishwasher regularly (thoroughly), you can partly prevent blockages.

Which fridge cleaner should I use?

For the fridge, it is best to use a mild detergent, such as a mixture of warm water and washing-up liquid or all-purpose cleaner. This is safe for the surfaces and helps to remove dirt and food residues. Avoid ‘caustic’ cleaning products such as vinegar. Does your fridge smell? Put half a lemon in the fridge and sprinkle a little salt on top. Or put a bowl of baking soda in it. Discover more fridge maintenance tips.

Safe cleaner for induction stoves

Induction stoves are very sensitive to scratches and other damage. Therefore, we do recommend that you really do use the specially developed cleaning products for this appliance. This is because these products are designed to safely and effectively remove dirt and stains without damaging the surface. Don't have these at home? Use lukewarm soapy water with a little washing-up liquid and a microfibre cloth to wipe down the stove. Dry with a tea towel to avoid streaks. Never use aggressive cleaning agents such as baking soda, vinegar or abrasives such as Cif. Discover more maintenance tips for the induction stoves.

Cleaning the freezer with soda

You can clean the freezer just fine with a sudsing with baking soda. Baking soda disinfects, degreases and removes unpleasant odours. Both baking soda and cleaning soda are fine. In addition, you need a damp cloth. Don't have baking soda in the house? Use soapy water with dish soap or all-purpose cleaner.

Clean oven with dishwasher tablet or baking soda?

Yes, you can clean a burnt-in oven with a dishwasher tablet. Fill an oven-proof container with water and a dishwasher tablet and place it in the oven. Set the oven to 100-150 °C. Leave this for about 10 minutes. Then use a clean, damp cloth to easily remove all the stubborn dirt. Another panacea is baking soda. Dampen a microfibre cloth and put some baking soda on it. Rub the inside of the oven with this. Let it soak in for a while and then grab another clean, damp cloth to wipe away the loosened dirt. Not all stains gone? Let the baking soda soak in for a day or overnight. Then wipe it again with a clean, damp cloth.
